Savor the GOOD

October 30, 2026•2 min read

In my late 20s, I had a moment that stamped itself into my whole being.

I was living with my best friend, Anna. We shared a house and, for a season, we shared so much of life.

She championed me. She saw my strengths and supported me in the places where I was still growing. We shared meals, laughter, late-night conversations, dreams for the future, weekdays and weekends. We even created a safe community for women to grow and belong together.

It was such a gift.

One afternoon or evening, I remember standing in our kitchen and feeling the GOODNESS of life really big.

I said something like, “Anna, this is the BEST. I love having this time together.”

And she immediately said:

“Monica, you know this is just a season. It won’t last forever.”

NOOOOOOO. 😂

Why not?!

Of course, if I let the words settle, I knew she was right.

Life moves. People grow. Circumstances change. Chapters end and new ones begin.

But I hadn't lived enough chapters yet—or perhaps hadn't been present enough to them—to understand that truth the way I understand it now.

That little moment in our kitchen stayed with me.

And strangely, because Anna told me this truth while I was feeling so GOOD, I think about it most often when life feels really good.

I'm running trails with friends and suddenly think:

This is a moment. Savor it.

I'm with my girls:

This is a season. Be here.

Danica will graduate from high school. This chapter will change.

Lanea and Odin. These moments are happening now.

Breathe.

Look around.

Take it in.

The friendships.
The conversations.
The ordinary afternoons.
The adventures.
The laughter.
The people sitting around the table.

None of it stays exactly as it is.

And somehow, that doesn't make life sadder to me anymore.

It makes it more beautiful.

Change is constant. Seasons come and seasons go. And knowing that reminds me not to sleep through the really good ones.

So thank you, best friend, for bursting my bubble in that kitchen in our late 20s. 😂

You gave me a lesson I have carried for decades:

When life feels really, really good—notice it.

Savor it.

Breathe it in.

Feel the awe.

Say thank you.

Because this is a season.

And what a gift it is to be here for it. ❤️
