AI, Authenticity, and an Interesting Reaction

Notice. Wonder. That's all.

I recently shared something personal with a friend: my reaction when I realized another friend had used AI to write a Facebook post.

It was so interesting to notice my response!

I only recognized the AI because I'm using it more and more myself.

For me, Facebook has been a place where my personal posts are still just ME.

Yet I use SUNO to create music, and I LOVE it! I'm entertained, grateful, and amazed by how music helps me train my mind and heart, as well as bring JOY and laughter to family or friend moments.

I've also started using ChatGPT for my blog writing.

I pour everything into a Google Doc. ALL of it! Then I bring it to ChatGPT, like a second-draft writing partner. Remember that friend in English class who helped you revise, add, and subtract?

Well, now that friend works in seconds! LOL.

And dang, the writing comes back SO GOOD! In my opinion.

Then I go back and delete, delete, delete anything that doesn't sound like me.

So why did I react differently when someone used AI for a personal Facebook post?

That question reminded me of something I recently shared with another teacher.

When I was developing my Spanish fluency in my twenties, using strong language in Spanish felt different from using it in English.

I grew up in a home where even the word stupid was considered strong language.

But arguing with my first husband in Spanish? I could use strong language, and it actually felt FUN! LOL.

I was careful, of course, but the words didn't carry the same emotional weight in my being. There was a little separation because Spanish wasn't my first language.

And I wonder if AI creates a similar feeling for me.

The thoughts are mine. The experiences are mine. But AI helps shape the words so quickly and beautifully.

And sometimes, when I recognize AI in someone else's writing, I feel a little separation between the human and the words.

It's you, but not fully you.

Which is especially interesting because that's exactly what I'm doing with this blog post!

I'm not making AI right or wrong. I'm simply curious about my own reaction.

Notice. Wonder. That's all. ❤️

The original words I poured out into a Google Doc-->I shared something personal with a friend. It was my reaction I had when I realized a friend was using AI to generate a post on Facebook. It was so interesting to feel and observe my response to that awareness. I only became aware because I am using AI more and more. But Facebook has been a place, personally, where the written part of my posts are still, just me. I use SUNO for generating AI music and I am SO entertained, as well as extremely thankful for another tool to train my mind and heart. Music is a powerful tool to train my mind. I have started to use ChatGpt to help with my blog writing. I write in a Google Doc. I pour it ALL out. And then I put it in ChatGpt as the second draft write, the friend in English class who revises and shares ideas to add, subtract, ect. And dang, it is seconds and my final draft is so GOOD! My opinion. And then I go back and delete, delete, the parts that don’t feel like me. Why not for a personal Facebook post too? Why did I react that way? I recently shared with a teacher how inappropriate language in a second language has a barrier to it for myself. When I built my Spanish fluency in my 20’s, using strong language didn’t feel the same in Spanish as it does in English. I feel differently using it in Spanish versus English. I remember arguing with my first husband, and had no problem using strong language. It actually felt fun. Because I grew up in a home where even the word, stupid was a strong word and not used in moments of anger or frustration. The freedom to use strong language in a second language that wasn’t my own, was FUN. LOL I didn’t feel it in my BEING the way it would in my first language. Was I careful to use it in the second language, of course. It feels the same as AI, in some ways. These are my words, and then AI generates so fast what I want to communicate and it comes out so GOOD, in my opinion, Bu it does feel like it puts a separation between the human and another human, the way I experienced it with my friend, as soon as I became aware of AI use. It is you, but not fully you. Like what I am doing in this blog post!

Notice. Wonder. That’s all.
